Brandon bags £4,000 from Tesco’s community grant scheme

Tesco Bags Of Help scheme

We're delighted to announce we’ve been awarded £4,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help community grant scheme.

Bags of Help is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, and sees grants raised from the sale of carrier bags awarded to thousands of local community projects every year.

Voting ran in stores throughout November and December with customers choosing which local project they would like to get the top award using a token given to them at the check-out.

Shoppers across three Tesco stores in Yate voted to award the highest amount to Brandon’s Playlink scheme, which provides a holiday respite care service for children with learning disabilities and autism in South Gloucestershire.

The money will be used for a series of extraordinary trips for the young people, including the theatre, adventure parks, and the Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour in London.

Caron Hale from Playlink said: "We’re so pleased to have won the Tesco Bags of Help, and the £4,000 will go a long way to ensuring that these trips will be amazing experiences that children will treasure for ever."

Alec Brown, Tesco's Head of Community, said: "We've been overwhelmed by the response from our customers. The great thing about Bags of Help is that local people are invited to decide how the money will be spent in their community. We can’t wait to see the projects come to life."

We'd like to say a massive thank you to Tesco, Groundwork, and to everyone who shopped and voted for us for helping bring these wonderful experiences to children with learning disabilities and autism.
