Let them lead the way
Friday 10 April 2015
Traditionally children have been told what to do and when to do it. At Brandon we have a different approach. We design our short break services with the child themselves, and of course their family too. They are at the forefront of everything; our freeing ethos and support enables this.
Children’s short break services offer an opportunity for the whole family to recharge the batteries. A short break for the child themselves, is similar to a sleepover or weekend away from mum and dad. The children we support have learning disabilities and autism, but that doesn’t take away from their individuality, their imagination, their dreams, and their ability to be who they want to be. We want every child to have the opportunity to stay in a safe environment, learn new skills, be fully involved and be independent, and then share their proudest achievements with their parents and families when they go home.
Seeing the children grow and flourish and hearing their laughter fills our hearts with joy and makes the whole team feel incredibly proud. Having our services led by the children who use them is the most rewarding part of working in children’s services, yet we want to do more; we want to continue to improve. By thinking differently we can help every child we support live the life that they want to live, and to live it to the best of their ability; let them lead the way.
