Outstanding Supported Living Services in Oxfordshire

Huge thanks and congratulations to staff from our Oxfordshire Supported Living services who are celebrating achieving the ‘outstanding’ rating in their recent Care Quality Commission inspection.
The service, which we began to manage in April last year, provides support for 59 people with learning disabilities and autism who live in their own homes. Achieving the CQC’s highest rating places the service in the top two percent of adult social care services in the country.
Out of five areas reviewed, two were rated outstanding and three were rated good. The report noted: "We found the service provided outstanding care and support to people and was very responsive to their needs, wishes and preferences."

Staff were particularly praised for their caring and people-centred approach. Julie Kelly, who manages services in Oxford and Chalgrove said:
“I’m always thinking about the quality of support that we’re providing, asking myself questions and getting feedback to make sure we’re doing the best job possible for the people we support. To get the Outstanding rating is a really welcome confirmation that the support we’re providing is excellent - we intend to keep it that way.
“All of my colleagues work so hard and should be very proud of what they have achieved, we really are absolutely delighted.”
Shirley Cuthbertson, who manages services in Banbury added:
“We are all so pleased with the results of the inspection. During the visits we were told that we could not be more person-centred than we already were. Supporting people to live the lives they want to is at the heart of all we do and it’s wonderful to have that acknowledged.”
Families were also asked for their views as part of the inspection. After learning the outcome, Chris Bullmore, father of Chalgrove resident Rupert, told us:
"This rating is really well deserved. Brandon’s wonderful, proactive team has led to the house being a happy place for our children to live in.
“We also must credit Oxford County Council for enabling parents to be part of the selection process after the withdrawal of the previous provider, which led to us eventually choosing Brandon Trust.
“For us it is a simple fact, if our children are happy, cared for by staff who know and love them, what more can we ask?”
Jon Minall, our Director of Operations & Development summed it up on behalf of Brandon:
“The important and life enhancing work undertaken day in day out by social care workers is seldom celebrated. I am therefore delighted that the Outstanding care and support experienced by Brandon’s customers in Oxfordshire has been recognised by the Care Quality Commission. This report is full of things to celebrate, and our passionate and committed Oxfordshire team have earned an accolade that they can proudly shout about.”
